81. Can I use my Panther Up-To Date CDs to install OSX on a blank partition or external drive?

Short answer: No.
Long answer: Yes.
Inspite of what you may read in different places, the Panther Up-To-Date CD set is not the same as the retail set of CDs. You must have a previous version of OSX installed on the volume on which you want to put Panther, hence the term "update."
You can, however, burn a copy of your Panther CDs that will install on blank volumes. Similar to previous OSX update CDs, there is a single file that distinguishes them from the retail versions. dealDave has a wonderful tutorial for how to do this. Links are included below
