79. What is "Journaling" or "Journaled" that I see mentioned about Panther?

What Journaling Is: The hard drive keeps a log of all its changes, which can be useful in the event of a crash.
Why is it now the default? It's been the default for years on UNIX systems to increase reliability. Apple just had to figure out how to get it to work with HFS+.
Related Questions Why can't I run fsck -y anymore? With the addition of Journaling being on, you no longer need to. You can start up in safe mode or you can use Disk Utility to check the volume for errors.
