31. I get freezes/data corruption with my external Firewire hard drive. What can I do?

This problem is more likely to happen with legacy PCi Macs equipped with Firewire or Firewire/USB combo PCI cards, than with Macs with built-in Firewire.

A solution is to set up your external Firewire hard drive with Intech HDST. The Intech drivers can be tuned to reduce freezes/corruption, although at the expense of some performance. You must have booted in to OS9 to use the Intech application, but the drivers work in both OS9 and OSX.
