26. I want to use the Pioneer A05 DVD burner with OS X. What do I need to know?

Not everything here has been tested or is known to work, but is the best info currently available. YMMV.
1. For the A05 to be suported by OS X, you must upgrade to 10.2.3.
2. Here are installation instructions. http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/G3-ZONE/hival52x/install.html http://www.dvdcreation.com/2001/08_aug/tutorials/a03install.htm
3. You can install Apple DVD Player 3.2 from the first Jaguar CD. You will need to do this if you are running an earlier version or if you have not previously had a DVD drive in your Mac. Here are instructions: Run Pacifist and open Mac OS X Install Disc 1/System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg. Expand the Package Contents and Click on DVD Player.app. Click on Install to install it. That's pretty much it.
You will need to download Pacifist to do this. http://www.charlessoft.com/Pacifist.dmg
4. iDVD2 cannot be downloaded and is not on any retail CD from Apple. If you want it, you have to order it from the Apple Store. It is $20.
5.If you find that iTunes will not recognize the drive make sure that you went to the Advanced tab in the iTunes Preferences and chose the new drive. It will not choose the new drive by default. I found that my old Sony drive was still selected eventhough it was not even connected to the Mac.
6. If you need this drive to be supported in iTunes under OS 9.x you can add this plug-in. (I have not tested this.) http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/software/PioneerA05_105_CDR.sit
As usual, the revised PioneerCDR file replaces the one already in the System Folder/Extensions/Authoring Support folder (OS 9.x) - From xlr8yourmac.com.
